Activate an RFID card or Autocharge

So that your drivers can charge with an RFID card, you add it to your fleet with its UID and set the card status to Active. This works just the same with RFID cards from other providers that you already use, so you do not necessarily have to order new ones.

You can also store the MAC address of each vehicle, provided it is compatible, and then charge via Autocharge without an RFID card.

1.Prerequisites

You have the Admin role, are in the Fleet manager area and have already created a fleet. You do not need a vehicle for this yet, because you can assign the RFID card later.

2.Find the UID

The UID is a string of characters such as 04415C4AB02491, which you enter without spaces. Where you find it depends on where your RFID card comes from:

  • For RFID cards from Depotcharge, the UID is printed on the back of each RFID card sent to you.
  • For RFID cards from ASTAG charge, you receive an Excel list with all UIDs by email with your order.
  • For existing RFID cards from other providers, the UID is usually not the printed code.

Instead, you read it with an NFC reader app such as "NFC Tools", which you can find in the common app stores for your smartphone.

If you still cannot determine the UID, hold the RFID card to an integrated station once and then contact support. Because the attempt is logged, support can read the UID for you.

3.Step by step

  1. 1.
In the sidebar, open Fleets & charging cards and open your fleet.
  2. 2.
There, switch to the RFID cards tab and click Add RFID in the top right to open the Manage RFID card window on the right.
  3. 3.
    Under Type, select RFID.
  4. 4.
Under Card number, enter a name of your choice by which you will recognise the RFID card later.

It does not have to match the UID.

  5. 5.
Under Unique card identifier (UID), enter the UID without spaces.
  6. 6.
Set the Card status to Active, because the default is Inactive, and with that status the RFID card would be rejected at the station.
  7. 7.
Optionally, select the appropriate vehicle straight away under Assigned vehicle.

Otherwise the default Not assigned remains, and you assign the RFID card later.

  8. 8.
    Finally, click Save.

4.Set up Autocharge

With Autocharge, the vehicle authenticates itself when plugged in by transmitting its MAC address, so no RFID card is needed. The prerequisite is that the vehicle model and the charging station support Autocharge; otherwise you continue to charge with an RFID card.

The MAC address of the charging controller is in the vehicle's technical master data, and fleet software for electric trucks can read it via the OBD interface or the telematics system and display it on the dashboard.

  1. 1.
As above, open the RFID cards tab and click Add RFID.
  2. 2.
Under Type, select MAC address (Autocharge).
  3. 3.
Under Label, enter a name by which you will recognise the entry.
  4. 4.
Under MAC address, enter the vehicle's MAC address in the format of the example AABBCCDDEEFF shown in the field.
  5. 5.
Under Status, select the desired status and, if needed, a vehicle under Assigned vehicle.
  6. 6.
    Finally, click Save.

5.Result

The RFID card now appears with the selected card status in the list on the RFID cards tab, where you see Card number, Unique identifier, Assigned vehicle and Card status at a glance.

If you have not yet selected a vehicle, assign the RFID card now in the vehicle under Authorisation, as described in Assign an RFID card to a vehicle.

6.Note

An RFID card whose card status is not Active is rejected at the charging station. A vehicle can also use an RFID card and Autocharge at the same time, which is the safest option, because the RFID card serves as a fallback at sites without Autocharge.

After an organisation has been deleted, the UIDs of its RFID cards initially remain blocked as "already in use". In this case, support releases them for you.
